In the report below from the Birmingham Post of <strong>4th December 1957.<\/strong><\/p>\n<p>This appears to tie in several threads-<\/p>\n<ul>\n<li>The confederacy of apologist Alderman Melsom<\/li>\n<li>The old &#8220;new equipment&#8221; line used before<\/li>\n<li>The tainting of the chocolate<\/li>\n<li>Trying to claim that the waste chemicals of the process would be <a href=\"http:\/\/whatliesbeneathrattlechainlagoon.org.uk\/wp-content\/uploads\/2017\/11\/oldburysmell12.png\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">&#8220;dumped at sea&#8221;.<\/a><\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<div id=\"attachment_9047\" style=\"width: 360px\" class=\"wp-caption aligncenter\"><a href=\"http:\/\/whatliesbeneathrattlechainlagoon.org.uk\/wp-content\/uploads\/2017\/12\/oldburysmell17.png\"><img aria-describedby=\"caption-attachment-9047\" decoding=\"async\" loading=\"lazy\" class=\"wp-image-9047\" src=\"http:\/\/whatliesbeneathrattlechainlagoon.org.uk\/wp-content\/uploads\/2017\/12\/oldburysmell17-226x300.png\" alt=\"\" width=\"350\" height=\"464\" srcset=\"https:\/\/whatliesbeneathrattlechainlagoon.org.uk\/wp-content\/uploads\/2017\/12\/oldburysmell17-226x300.png 226w, https:\/\/whatliesbeneathrattlechainlagoon.org.uk\/wp-content\/uploads\/2017\/12\/oldburysmell17.png 268w\" sizes=\"(max-width: 350px) 100vw, 350px\" \/><\/a><p id=\"caption-attachment-9047\" class=\"wp-caption-text\">Dump it under water in barrels<\/p><\/div>\n<p>A subsequent letter however from the following year in the same paper suggests that this plan did not appear to work. The Handsworth correspondent in the <strong>13th May 1958<\/strong> article wrote;<\/p>\n<p>&nbsp;<\/p>\n<p><a href=\"http:\/\/whatliesbeneathrattlechainlagoon.org.uk\/wp-content\/uploads\/2017\/12\/oldburysmell18.png\"><img decoding=\"async\" loading=\"lazy\" class=\"aligncenter wp-image-9048\" src=\"http:\/\/whatliesbeneathrattlechainlagoon.org.uk\/wp-content\/uploads\/2017\/12\/oldburysmell18-128x300.png\" alt=\"\" width=\"400\" height=\"934\" srcset=\"https:\/\/whatliesbeneathrattlechainlagoon.org.uk\/wp-content\/uploads\/2017\/12\/oldburysmell18-128x300.png 128w, https:\/\/whatliesbeneathrattlechainlagoon.org.uk\/wp-content\/uploads\/2017\/12\/oldburysmell18.png 239w\" sizes=\"(max-width: 400px) 100vw, 400px\" \/><\/a><\/p>\n<p>Sleepless from Handsworth makes some interesting points about the <strong><span style=\"color: #ff0000;\">&#8220;vile fumes&#8221;<\/span><\/strong> and potential links to lung cancer and public health. Perhaps he or she should have tried to count cats instead of sheep.<\/p>\n<p>But with people like Melsom in charge of health in the rotten borough of Oldbury, what chance of any real investigation into that?
