This\u00a0page looks at some of the developments that occurred up to its eventual demise and offloading in around <strong>1988.<\/strong><\/p>\n<p>It was for many years the immediate southern neighbour to the former rattlechain brickworks pit (rattlechain lagoon), and over time had some changes made to the site layout.<\/p>\n<p><a href=\"http:\/\/whatliesbeneathrattlechainlagoon.org.uk\/wp-content\/uploads\/2018\/01\/sewage1.png\"><img decoding=\"async\" loading=\"lazy\" class=\"aligncenter wp-image-9199\" src=\"http:\/\/whatliesbeneathrattlechainlagoon.org.uk\/wp-content\/uploads\/2018\/01\/sewage1-300x130.png\" alt=\"\" width=\"600\" height=\"260\" srcset=\"https:\/\/whatliesbeneathrattlechainlagoon.org.uk\/wp-content\/uploads\/2018\/01\/sewage1-300x130.png 300w, https:\/\/whatliesbeneathrattlechainlagoon.org.uk\/wp-content\/uploads\/2018\/01\/sewage1.png 705w\" sizes=\"(max-width: 600px) 100vw, 600px\" \/><\/a><\/p>\n<p>The picture above is from 1950 and shows the now water and phosphorus contaminated former clay pit (rattlechain lagoon). Note that it is one single pool and not the current subdivided two lagoon setup. Waste was being dumped into this one single pool by Albright and Wilson, the division of the pool by causeway path occurred around 1961 with the raising of the water levels- to cover the increasing level of phosphorus waste and to ensure that it did not catch fire.<\/p>\n<p>John&#8217;s Lane runs along the top of the shot, and just out of shot, this lane would later be diverted in the 1970&#8217;s.<\/p>\n<p>Settling tanks and filter beds are clearly visible on the land now encompassing Callaghan and Wilson Drives.<\/p>\n<p><a href=\"http:\/\/whatliesbeneathrattlechainlagoon.org.uk\/wp-content\/uploads\/2018\/01\/sewage2.png\"><img decoding=\"async\" loading=\"lazy\" class=\"aligncenter wp-image-9200\" src=\"http:\/\/whatliesbeneathrattlechainlagoon.org.uk\/wp-content\/uploads\/2018\/01\/sewage2-300x203.png\" alt=\"\" width=\"600\" height=\"407\" srcset=\"https:\/\/whatliesbeneathrattlechainlagoon.org.uk\/wp-content\/uploads\/2018\/01\/sewage2-300x203.png 300w, https:\/\/whatliesbeneathrattlechainlagoon.org.uk\/wp-content\/uploads\/2018\/01\/sewage2.png 500w\" sizes=\"(max-width: 600px) 100vw, 600px\" \/><\/a><\/p>\n<p>There appear to be some outhouse buildings near to John&#8217;s Lane and 6 main &#8220;crap circle&#8221; formations. The council recommended\u00a0 a seven year period of the dumping of excrement on this land.<\/p>\n<p><a href=\"http:\/\/whatliesbeneathrattlechainlagoon.org.uk\/wp-content\/uploads\/2016\/05\/Scan_20160506-2.png\"><img decoding=\"async\" loading=\"lazy\" class=\"wp-image-7566 aligncenter\" src=\"http:\/\/whatliesbeneathrattlechainlagoon.org.uk\/wp-content\/uploads\/2016\/05\/Scan_20160506-2.png\" alt=\"Scan_20160506 (2)\" width=\"500\" height=\"724\" \/><\/a><\/p>\n<p>A letter from <strong>Arthur Wright<\/strong> of The Upper Main Drainage Authority to the town clerk of the council once again\u00a0evidences how the Chelmarsh conman was always at the centre of obtaining the best price for land which he had absolutely no intention of using for brickmaking purposes- as granted in application 216.<\/p>\n<p>Sheldon was approached by the authority in February 1967, yet it was obviously known to him that the council were also intent of buying the land also. Was he just trying to hold out to get\u00a0 the best price?<\/p>\n<p><a href=\"http:\/\/whatliesbeneathrattlechainlagoon.org.uk\/wp-content\/uploads\/2016\/05\/Scan_20160506-3.png\"><img decoding=\"async\" loading=\"lazy\" class=\"wp-image-7567 aligncenter\" src=\"http:\/\/whatliesbeneathrattlechainlagoon.org.uk\/wp-content\/uploads\/2016\/05\/Scan_20160506-3.png\" alt=\"Scan_20160506 (3)\" width=\"500\" height=\"619\" \/><\/a><\/p>\n<p>In the application referred to, Wright appears oblivious to the multiple applications previously submitted, which is difficult to believe given the authorities presence in the area for some years. Sheldon would have course known all about previous granted applications- <strong>granted under false purposes<\/strong>.<\/p>\n<p><a href=\"http:\/\/whatliesbeneathrattlechainlagoon.org.uk\/wp-content\/uploads\/2016\/05\/Scan_20160506-5.png\"><img decoding=\"async\" loading=\"lazy\" class=\"wp-image-7568 aligncenter\" src=\"http:\/\/whatliesbeneathrattlechainlagoon.org.uk\/wp-content\/uploads\/2016\/05\/Scan_20160506-5.png\" alt=\"Scan_20160506 (5)\" width=\"500\" height=\"740\" \/><\/a><\/p>\n<p><a href=\"http:\/\/whatliesbeneathrattlechainlagoon.org.uk\/wp-content\/uploads\/2016\/05\/Scan_20160506-6.png\"><img decoding=\"async\" loading=\"lazy\" class=\"wp-image-7569 aligncenter\" src=\"http:\/\/whatliesbeneathrattlechainlagoon.org.uk\/wp-content\/uploads\/2016\/05\/Scan_20160506-6.png\" alt=\"Scan_20160506 (6)\" width=\"500\" height=\"731\" \/><\/a><\/p>\n<p>The form B submitted shows the lucky recipient of the cash sale for allowing human waste to be dumped.<\/p>\n<p><a href=\"http:\/\/whatliesbeneathrattlechainlagoon.org.uk\/wp-content\/uploads\/2016\/05\/Scan_20160506-8.png\"><img decoding=\"async\" loading=\"lazy\" class=\"wp-image-7570 aligncenter\" src=\"http:\/\/whatliesbeneathrattlechainlagoon.org.uk\/wp-content\/uploads\/2016\/05\/Scan_20160506-8.png\" alt=\"Scan_20160506 (8)\" width=\"500\" height=\"684\" \/><\/a><\/p>\n<p><a href=\"http:\/\/whatliesbeneathrattlechainlagoon.org.uk\/wp-content\/uploads\/2016\/05\/Scan_20160506.png\"><img decoding=\"async\" loading=\"lazy\" class=\"wp-image-7571 aligncenter\" src=\"http:\/\/whatliesbeneathrattlechainlagoon.org.uk\/wp-content\/uploads\/2016\/05\/Scan_20160506.png\" alt=\"Scan_20160506\" width=\"500\" height=\"795\" \/><\/a><\/p>\n<p>It is extremely doubtful that condition 3 regards \u201creinstatement of the land\u201d was carried out, except that is covering it over with foundry sand.<\/p>\n<p>In 1971 another planning application was approved by Warley Borough council numbered <strong>W4352.
